We have a talented artist in our "extended family". Check out these wonderful t-shirt designs from Jason's wife, Beth Thomas:

I'm leaning toward #3. (You can't tell from this mini-pic, but it has lyrics from "Friends for a Lifetime" - click here to see larger versions.) If you care to have an opinion, write to me at clairelynchband@gmail.com!

Claire Lynch is one of the classiest acts in bluegrass today, capable of turning bona fide classics like Jimmy Martin's "Hey Lonesome" and the Osborne Brothers' "Up This Hill And Down" into her own even as she pays homage to the brilliance of the originals. Her infinitely expressive voice has earned her guest appearances with the likes of Dolly Parton, but it's best heard in front of her own band-anchored by senior member and award-winning guitarist Jim Hurst, it has recently incorporated underrated fiddle and mandolin player Jason Thomas and redoubtable bassist Mark Schatz, most recently of Nickel Creek. That's a formidable lineup, and Lynch wisely gives them plenty of room to shine, but in the end, it's her sensibilities-and talents-that shape the sound into one delicious whole.

I had a fun time "guesting" on the new Donna the Buffalo CD, Silverlined (Sugar Hill), released earlier this week. I'm on the first track, with the great name of "Temporary Misery".
Charts: Crowd Favorites is #14 on this week's Roots Music Report Radio Airplay Chart for Bluegrass, and "The Day That Lester Died" is on the National Bluegrass Survey Chart (Bluegrass Unlimited) for its 7th month, currently at #11.
The 2nd ballot (of 3) for IBMA awards is out, and we're awfully pleased to be candidates for nomination in the following categories, with thanks to all IBMA members for considering us:
Entertainer of the Year (Claire Lynch Band)
Vocal Group of the Year (Claire Lynch Band)
Female Vocalist of the Year (Claire)
Song of the Year (The Day That Lester Died)
Guitar Player of the Year (Jim)
Bass Player of the Year (Mark)
We've posted about 50 of the entries from our recent Your Life in Six Words contest. They're a great read - check them out here. To tell you the truth, it was hard to narrow the field to these 50 from the several hundred entries, much less to pick the winner. To paraphrase Garrison Keillor, you are all way above average!
